Football Tasmania offers two beginner referee courses across the state.

The Game Leader course is the first introductory course to refereeing, allowing participants to be appointed as game leaders within some of our Junior Associations to matches in the U11 and U12 age groups.

The Junior Football Match Official Course is the second introductory course, allowing participants to be appointed as referees to Football Tasmania youth and social league matches upon completion.

Game Leader Course:

The Game Leader Course is offered as an in person session over 4 hours, covering the basic rules of Junior Football (U10-U12) and the key aspects of being a game leader for these age groups.

The game leader course costs $30.

All participants must bring their own whistle to the course.

Junior Football Match Official Course (Beginner Referee)

To begin your journey in refereeing, please complete the below expression of interest.

Upon completion of the expression of interest, you will receive further instructions from Football Tasmania’s Referee Department.

The Junior Football Match Official Course is the entry level course, that builds on knowledge gained from the Online Laws of the Game Component.

The Junior Football Match Official Course consists of two components. The Football Australia Online Modules that costs $45. Followed by a Football Tasmania led practical session which costs $80 and includes a whistle, red and yellow cards and a match record card.

The minimum age to complete the Junior Football Match Official Course is 13.
