April Club Changer Club of the Month - Woodbridge FC

Woodbridge Football Club has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening opportunities for women and girls in football, making them our Club Changer Club of the Month for April.

Club Vice President Conor Watson said the club’s sharpened focus began in 2024 with the introduction of a dedicated Female Football Champion role on the committee—an initiative designed to ensure female participation remained central to the club’s planning and development.

According to Watson, the impact was immediate. After listening to feedback from players and families, the club launched all‑girls teams to support those who felt unsure about joining mixed squads. “The response has been incredible,” he said, noting that the girls’ program has quickly become one of the most sought‑after at the club, now boasting two full teams and demand beyond capacity.

Female representation across the club has also surged. Watson confirmed that women and girls now make up nearly half of all players, while the committee itself is more than 50% female. Growth in female coaching numbers has further strengthened the club’s culture, providing visible role models for younger players.

Beyond formal programs, Watson said the club has also invested in social and inclusive pathways, including an informal mums’ soccer group that welcomes women of all experience levels. Many participants had never played before, but the relaxed environment has helped them build confidence and connection.

Watson emphasised that the club’s work is far from finished. “We’re committed to keeping this momentum going and ensuring football is a place where women and girls feel supported, confident, and excited to get involved,” he said.
