FESTIVAL OF FOOTBALL AHEAD WITH STATEWIDE CUP FINALS

It’s a festival of football this King’s Birthday long weekend (7-9 June 2025), with four Statewide Cup finals taking place including teams from across the State.

The Under 18 women’s and Under 21 men’s Statewide Cup finals will be held TOMORROW, (Saturday 7 June) at KGV, Glenorchy.

The Under 18 women’s final between Glenorchy Knights and South Hobart will kick off at 11am, and the Under 21 men's final between Devonport City Strikers and South Hobart at 2pm.

On Monday, 9 June at Valley Road, Devonport, the Women’s Statewide Cup final between Devonport City Strikers and South Hobart begins at midday.

South Hobart and South East United will contest the men’s Statewide Cup final - the Lakoseljac Cup – at 3pm. The winner enters the Round 32 of the Australia Cup, where they face the possibility of drawing A-League opponents.

The Cup is named for Milan Lakoseljac who made a significant contribution to football in Tasmania as both a player and coach after arriving from Croatia in 1969.

Milan passed away in 1999 after a lengthy illness, and the men’s Statewide Cup was renamed and relaunched in 2000 as the Milan Lakoseljac Memorial Trophy to honour his memory.

Football Tasmania Chief Executive Officer Tony Pignata encouraged people to get along to the games on both days.

“The King’s Birthday long weekend is shaping up to be one of the biggest events on the Tasmanian football calendar for players and fans,” he said.

“Devonport will host a festival of football, with the Devonport Cup junior tournament running from Friday to Sunday, before the senior Statewide Cup finals on Monday.

“There’s nothing like the passion of Cup football, and I encourage Tasmanians to get along to a game to see the State’s best players in action – and our McDonald’s® Half-Time Heroes including players from our Northern Football in Schools program.

“I’d like to thank McDonald’s Australia for supporting the Statewide Cups, as well as for their continued support of the National Premier Leagues Tasmania and Women’s Super League.”

The Devonport City Strikers’ new $7.5m Gordon Rimmer stand will be officially opened at 2.30pm.
