McDonald’s NPL Tasmania Round 11

South Hold Off Knights To Stay Top

South Hobart survived a furious late rally from the Glenorchy Knights to claim a 3-2 victory in their top-of-the-table clash at D'arcy Street. South were cruising when Austin Yost extended their lead to 3-0 in the opening moments of the second half, but a pair of Tyler Harrison penalty conversions ensured a grandstand finish to the contest. The Knights came within a whisker of making it yet another top four side v top four side match ending in a draw, but Nicholas O'Connell produced a pair of spectacular saves in the dying moments to preserve his side's lead and keep them on top of the table as we cross the halfway point of the season.

Final Score

South Hobart 3 (N.Morton 15’, S.Berezansky 44’, A.Yost 47’)

Glenorchy Knights 2 (T.Harrison 62’ 72’)

Lions Solidify Top Four Spot

The Kingborough Lions locked down their spot in the top four, as they downed fifth-placed Launceston City 3-1 at Prospect Park. In a strong road performance, Noah Mies opened things up with a goal against his old side, before an absolute missile of a shot from star man Kobe Kemp doubled the advantage just a minute later. Otto Schwarz extended that early in the second half and despite a late consolation strike of considerable quality from Akwasi Agyekum, the Lions held on to open up a 7 point gap to City on the table.

Final Score

Kingborough Lions United 3 (N.Mies 22’, K.Kemp 24’, O.Schwarz 53’)

Launceston City 1 (A.Agyekum 84’)

Zebras Overcome United

The Clarence Zebras maintained their perfect record against sides below them on the table, as they fought back to down Launceston United 3-1 for their third win of the campaign. Despite trailing to an early Luke Warrener strike, the Zebras rallied and got back on at half time when Jayden Hey converted from the spot. A storming run from James Greenaway set up Nicholas Wright to tap home the go-ahead goal just after the restart, before Jack Maundrill secured all 3 points with a classily-taken finish near the hour mark.

Final Score

Launceston United 1 (L.Warrener 22’)

Clarence Zebras 3 (J.Hey 32’, N.Wright 46’, J.Maundrill 57’)
