South and Strikers Play Out a Pulsating Draw

South Hobart and the Devonport Strikers played out a 2-2 draw in a fiery encounter between the competition's top two at D'arcy Street. It was an action-packed contest that saw yellow cards aplenty, penalty drama, a coach send-off and ultimately the two sides unable to be separated. In slippery conditions, Charles Bidwell handed the Strikers the lead against the run of play before an Austin Yost cross trickled home and squared things up by half time. Sam Berezansky had South ahead early in the second half, but the lead lasted just 2 minutes before Xuan Cappellino equalised from the penalty spot. South came closest to a winner down the stretch, but the score remained locked at 2-2, as the title race tightened further.

Final Score

South Hobart 2 (A.Yost 34, S.Berezansky 51')

Devonport Strikers 2 (C.Bidwell 14’, X.Cappellino 54')

Scintillating Knights Smash Lions

The Glenorchy Knights bounced back from last week's defeat in spectacular fashion, as they hammered the Kingborough Lions 7-3 at Lightwood Park. In a devastating attacking display, the Knights exploded out of the blocks to lead 5-0 inside the opening half hour of play. Two goals in 60 seconds midway through the second half gave the Lions some hope of a miracle comeback, but the Knights quickly added two more goals as they stormed to a thumping win that saw them gaining ground on the competition's top two sides and closing back within 3 points of the summit.

Final Score

Kingborough Lions 3 (K.Kemp 74’, N.Mies 75’ 90+2’)

Glenorchy Knights 7 (N.Mearns 7’, J.Redfearn 14’ 88’, N.Naden 20’, S.Cordwell 21’ R.Dillon 29’ H.Bain 82’)

Clark and Stone Deny Zebras

The Clarence Zebras came close to their best victory of the season, but had to be content with a 1-1 draw against Launceston City. An early Kyle Vincent goal had the Zebras en-route to victory, before some Joel Stone wizardry saw City getting back on terms in the 78th minute. The Zebras had a glorious chance to win in it the final minute, but Lachie Clark produced a brilliant kick save to deny Shin Kwanhoon and preserve the point for the road side.

Final Score

Clarence Zebras 1 (K.Vincent 3’)

Launceston City 1 (J.Stone 77’)
