McDonald’s NPL Tasmania Round 14

City Put Major Dent in South's Title Hopes

On a night where they celebrated their major sponsor TassieCare, Launceston City produced a scintillating performance to bump South Hobart from the top of the NPL Tasmania table. City were on fire in the second half as they fought back to score a 4-2 victory, having trailed 2-1 at the half-time break. Coach Daniel Syson spoke pre-game about his side's beefed-up attacking threat and that was on full display in the second half, with Thierry Swaby and Joel Stone tearing the South Hobart defence apart to secure their side's biggest win of the season. The result saw South dropping points on the road North for the second consecutive week as they slipped to second on the table.

Final Score

Launceston City 4 (T.Swaby 17’ 66’, J.Stone 72’, M.Yawntung 90+3’)

South Hobart 2 (N.Morton 11’, A.Walter 41’)

Knights Smash Strikers and Move Top

The Glenorchy Knights took full advantage of South Hobart's slip-up, as they hammered the Devonport Strikers 4-0 to move into top spot on the table. The Knights produced a brilliant attacking display, dismantling the Striker's defence in arguably their finest performance of the season, led by another dazzling display from the red-hot Stefan Cordwell. The Knights fell 5 points behind in the title race after their loss to South Hobart back in Round 11, but the last three weeks have seen them winning three in a row and scoring 16 times in the process to now suddenly lead the league by two points. They are now the side everyone is chasing as we enter the final full round of fixtures, with each side set to play each other once more.

Final Score

Glenorchy Knights 4 (S.Cordwell 7’ 28’, J.Redfearn 45+1’, R.Dillon 67’)

Devonport Strikers 0

Lions Hit United For Six To Move Into Third

The Kingborough Lions comfortably accounted for last-placed Launceston United, scoring a comprehensive 6-0 victory to leap past Devonport and into third place on the table. The game looked to be heading to the interval scoreless, but two strikes in the final minutes of the first half saw the floodgates open right up and the Lions cruised home from there, with Noah Mies scoring twice in the 6-0 victory that makes it 4 wins from their past 5 outings.

Final Score

Launceston United 0

Kingborough Lions 6 (A.Brown 42’, K.Douce 45+2’ K.Kemp 46’ N.Mies 51’ 65’, E.Wright 62’)

Riverside Score Road Win Over Zebras

Riverside Olympic bounced back from last weekend's heartbreak to claim a 2-1 road victory over the Clarence Zebras. Matias Rodriguez's brilliant volley handed Riverside an early lead which Gedi Krusa doubled from the penalty spot early in the second half. A late Kyle Vincent strike gave the Zebras some late hope, but the Roos would not repeat their mistakes from a week prior, as they held on to secure a deserved win. The victory sees the Roos draw level on points with the Zebras, and they will have the chance to overtake them and move into sixth place when they play their catch-up game with Launceston United on Friday night.

Final Score

Clarence Zebras 1 (K.Vincent 87’)

Riverside Olympic 2 (M.Rodriguez 11’, G.Krusa 51’)
