McDonald’s Women's Super League Round 13
United Deny Lions In Another Tight Battle
The Kingborough Lions and Launceston United continued their trend of playing out closely-fought thrillers, this time drawing 2-2 at Birch Avenue. The hosts got the dream start when they led 2-0 thanks to goals from young stars Chelsea Wing and Hollie Jones inside the opening 12 minutes. A profligate Lions side should've closed that gap by half-time, but squandered some gilt-edged chances as it somehow remained 2-0 at the break. Tilly Wills cut the lead to 2-1 immediately after the restart before Cara Lashmar equalised from long range. Danielle Kannegiesser looked like she might snatch the win for the Lions in the 91st minute, but Jazlin Venn produced a fine save to save a point for her side and see the Lions ceding ground to the Strikers in the title race.
Final Score
Launceston United 2 (C.Wing 2’, H.Jones 12’)
Kingborough Lions 2 (T.Wills 48’, C.Lashmar 67’)

Pirates Breakthrough For First Victory
Taroona claimed their first victory of the season as a late flurry of goals saw the Pirates score a 3-0 win over Riverside Olympic. In a game that saw both defences dominant, with very limited scoring chances throughout the 90 minutes, it was the Roos who thought they had taken the lead in the 50th minute when Daisy Barbour had the ball in the back of the net, only for it to be wiped off due to an offside. Instead, it was substitute Olivia Harnwell who conjured the first goal and she was soon joined on the scoresheet by fellow substitute Maeve Dunbabin. Maddy Lane then put the cherry on top of the cake, blasting one into the roof of the net to secure the 3-0 win.
Final Score
Taroona FC 3 (O.Harnwell 71’, M.Dunbabin 80’, M.Lane 85’)
Riverside Olympic 0

Strikers Hit Knights for Six to Move Eight Points Clear
The Devonport Strikers took a stranglehold on the 2024 title race, scoring a thumping 6-0 victory over the Glenorchy Knights to open up a buffer of eight points atop the WSL table. The Strikers flew out of the blocks, scoring three times in the opening 17 minutes to jump the Knights and set up the big victory, with Lucy Foote scoring twice. Maddy Payne stole the show in the second half, scoring a brilliant brace to extend the lead to 6-0 after Whitney Knight had picked out the bottom corner shortly after the restart. It may well have been more, if not for some quality stops from the Knights' young goalkeeper Maddison Lennox. The victory leaves Devonport eight points clear with seven games to go, a decisive break that has them sitting as the overwhelming title favourites from here.
Final Score
Glenorchy Knights 0
Devonport Strikers 6 (L.Foote 9’ 15’, D.Capel 17’, W.Knight 52’, M.Payne 57’ 61’)
