McDonald’s Women's Super League Round 14

Strikers Place One Hand On League Title With Dominant Win

The Devonport Strikers have placed one hand on the league title, scoring a thumping 4-0 victory over second-placed Kingborough Lions at Valley Road. The Strikers bossed the contest, dominating the first half but finding themselves unable to break through until Lucy Foote scored a stunner from outside the box just before the half-time break. Foote then scored an even better goal from further out to double the lead in the 62nd minute, which seemed to open the floodgates - having worn down the Lions' defence, the Strikers scored three times in the space of 10 minutes to motor away to the 4-0 win. The victory leaves them sitting 11 points clear of the Lions atop the table, and 12 ahead of South Hobart, with a League/Cup double now looking all but assured.

Final Score

Devonport Strikers 4 (L.Foote 45+1’, 62’, G.King 67’, W.Knight 71’)

Kingborough Lions 0

Baric Brace Sinks Pirates

A brace from Millie Baric fired the Glenorchy Knights to a 2-0 victory over Taroona FC at KGV. In a dour game that saw relatively few scoring chances throughout and the defences firmly on top, Baric provided the inspiration for her side to claim their fourth victory of the season. Baric's first was an Olimpico goal, swinging in a corner that neither the defence nor keeper dealt with and it snuck into the net to make it 1-0 at half-time. Whilst the first was somewhat fortunate, there was no doubting the quality of her second strike, deftly lobbing the keeper with an impeccable first-time finish, running onto a perfectly weighted ball from Ines Gadon to lock away the three points for her side in the 71st minute.

Final Score

Glenorchy Knights 2 (M.Baric 30', 71')

Taroona FC 0
