Knights and Riverside Open Up Their Accounts

Glenorchy Knights and Riverside Olympic claimed their first-ever points in the WSL, playing out an entertaining 2-2 draw at KGV in a battle of the competition newcomers. Charley Read had the visitors ahead in just the third minute, before the game exploded into life either side of halftime. A stunning Meg Connolly run and goal in between a pair of strikes from the Knights left things delicately poised at 2-2 after 47 minutes and whilst both sides had opportunities to win it throughout the second half, neither could find the match-winning goal and they had to be content with a share of the spoils.

Final Score

Glenorchy Knights 2 (M.Baric 42', C.Butler 47')

Riverside Olympic 2  (C.Read 3', M.Connolly 44')

South Survive Furious Late Fightback

South Hobart survived a late scare, as Launceston United launched a furious late fightback that almost saw them snatching a result. When Pishon Choi launched her long-range stunner to make it 4-0 in the 70th minute it appeared her side was cruising to the finish line, but Moana Chamberlin answered back with a top-drawer strike of her own to spark a late rally from the hosts. When Smith and Declerk also found the back of the net, South's lead was cut to 4-3 in stoppage time, but they managed to hold on and claim the three points in a thoroughly entertaining contest.

Final Score

Launceston United 3 (M.Chamberlin 76', L.Smith 85', I.Declerk 91')

Lions Maintain Unbeaten Start Against Pirates

The Kingborough Lions maintained their unbeaten start to the season, accounting for an improved Taroona outfit 3-0 at Lightwood Park. It's been a rough start to the year for the Pirates, but they were far more sound in defence in the first half of this one as the game reached half-time locked at 0-0. The Lions found their cutting edge in attack after the restart, however, with Laura Davis and Ava Wylie both chiming with a goal and an assist as they secured a comfortable win to keep pace with South Hobart at the top.

Final Score

Taroona FC 0

Kingborough Lions 3 (C.Lashmar 47’, L.Davis 51’, A.Wylie 67’)
