This coming weekend a women’s team representing Football Federation Northern Territory (FFNT) will be travelling to Hobart for two matches. It is the start of what Football Federation Tasmania hopes will be an ongoing series of home and away matches along the lines of the Bass Strait Cup that is played between Tasmania and Victoria.
The NT players will arrive in Hobart on Thursday morning and will undertake two training sessions with FFT TD Michael Edwards prior to the matches. The training sessions will be at KGV on Thursday and Friday afternoon at 2pm.
The matches will be played at KGV Football Park on Saturday and Sunday with the FFNT squad leaving on Sunday evening.
FFNT Head Coach, Alex Billeter, said it was a great opportunity for many of her players to experience football outside of their local competition and to gauge their development against another regional Federation.
“We are looking forward to travelling to Hobart and we will be trying to make the matches competitive for the Tasmanian teams” she added.
FFT TD, Michael Edwards, commented that it was always a good thing to have matches for the senior State women and when FFNT indicated that they wanted to come to Hobart, the enquiry was met with open arms.
“The more matches that we can offer at senior representative level, the better”, Edwards said.
“The plan is to play a senior State women’s team on the Saturday and the women’s NDC squad on the Sunday. We are planning on playing the girls who were in the Bass Strait Cup game, so we will have a strong squad ready to play. Some are unavailable, but most will be from that group for the first match on Saturday. On Sunday, it is likely that we will look at players who are to be considered for inclusion in the NDC representative squad; so it will be a younger group.”
