Rising stars of Tassie football called up to Junior Matildas training camp

Two rising stars of football in Tasmania have been selected for the upcoming Young Matildas national camp in Canberra next week, Football Australia announced today (Wednesday, 16 April 2025).

Goalkeeper Amelie Millar, from Launceston City FC – who attended the previous camp in December – and Glenorchy Knights central defender Ebony Pitt have both been named in the squad.

Millar played for Tasmania in the 2022 Under 14 State team as a 13-year-old, the Under 14 State team in 2023, and the Under 15 State team in 2024. Millar captained these teams in 2023 and 2024.

Pitt was a member of the Under 14 State team in 2023, and the Under 15 State team in 2024. She is in her second season playing WSL, Tasmania’s top female league, for Glenorchy Knights.

Both are members of the inaugural cohort of the Football Australia – Football Tasmania Academy program.

Football Tasmania Technical Director Alan Eadie congratulated the players and said: “These players have shown great talent and commitment to our game, and are thoroughly deserving of this selection.

“These camps put our players in prime position for being called up to their national side, and we will continue to support them – alongside their clubs – on their journey to play football at the highest level.

“We wish them all the best at the camp and know it will be a wonderful experience for them.”
