Football Tasmania was very pleased to join representatives of a number of sports organisations earlier today in a meeting with the Minister for Sport and Racing, the Hon Jane Howlett MLC.
Sports represented included rugby, AFL, cricket, football, netball, basketball, swimming and hockey. Combined these organisations represent over 150,000 Tasmanians and the sports they participate in.
Football Tasmania joined all of the sporting organisations in thanking the Minister for her commitment to assisting the sports community during the pandemic and the Premier for allocating $2 million yesterday to help sports organisations survive the economic shockwave of the coronavirus outbreak. All sports in Tasmania have been severely affected and the Government’s leadership is welcome.
The sports organisations will meet with the Minister again in coming weeks and will work with the Government to ensure that sports can get back to normal as soon as it’s safe to do so.
