Clutch Downes Sends Lions Through To Decider

A stunning 90th minute free kick from Greg Downes saw the Kingborough Lions overcome a spirited Riverside Olympic side 2-1 at Windsor Park. A dramatic game - that had already seen multiple penalties awarded - enjoyed a highly dramatic finish, as Riverside captain and goalkeeper Dan Nash was sent off for his last-man foul on Alfred Hess in the 88th minute. It led to a free kick just outside the box, which Greg Downes promptly stepped up and expertly curled home, to secure the Lions' spot in the final. Earlier, James Trevis' opening goal had been cancelled out by Kobe Kemp, who fired home the rebound after Nash had denied his initial penalty shot.

Final Score

Riverside Olympic 1 (J.Trevis 6’)

Kingborough Lions 2 (K.Kemp 43’, G.Downes 90’)

Cordwell Foils Strikers' Bid For Four-Peat

The Devonport Strikers' bid for a fourth consecutive Lakoseljac Cup triumph fell agonisingly short, as the Glenorchy Knights won an extra time thriller 3-2 at Valley Road. After Nick Lanau-Atkinson had headed the Strikers into an early lead, Anthony Mamic got the visitors back on terms, finishing off a storming counter-attack before Tyler Harrison converted from the spot just before the half time break, to send the Knights into the sheds in the lead. That lead was wiped within 10 seconds of the restart as Riku Ichimura stylishly levelled things at 2-2, a scoreline that would hold right up till the 117th minute, when, with penalties looming, Stefan Cordwell fired a thunderbolt of a volley that picked out the bottom corner and secured a late win for the Knights.

Final Score (AET)

Devonport Strikers 2 (N.Lanau-Atkinson 10’, R.Ichimura 46’)

Glenorchy Knights 3 (A.Mamic 34’, J.Redfearn 45+3’, S.Cordwell 117’)
