Peppis Christofi is a founding member of Burnie United Football Club, a life member and a respected elder of the club and the football community.
Peppis, or Peter as he became known, arrived in 1963 into Devonport and then moved to Burnie when he got a job at the pulp mill. He played with the local, foundational clubs that were made up of largely migrant workers at both the mill and the tioxide factory in Burnie.
Peter was instrumental in the amalgamation of Burnie Rovers with Burnie Spartans to create Burnie United in 1978, holding office as the vice president and then president after Syd Newall’s passing.
Peter received a Tasmanian Government award for his services to football in Tasmania. He stated at the time his most important role with the club was helping players and meeting many people across the State.
Peter has dedicated many hours, giving generously of his time, knowledge and energy to grow and maintain our game and give people in the North West community a place to play our beautiful game. Despite just turning 90, he still attends most home games at Montello and is a great source of advice for committee members, coaches and players.
