Peter Savill's involvement in football spans more than fifty years, from his schoolboy debut for England in 1973 to his most recent coaching appointment with Northern Rangers in 2023.
After seven years at Leeds United as an apprentice professional and then full-time professional, Peter arrived in Tasmania in 1980, and went on to become one of the finest players and most successful coaches Northern Tasmanian football has produced.
Across a playing career spanning more than a decade, he was twice named the Tasmanian State League's Player of the Year, was made captain of the Launceston City FC (Juventus) select team for the 1979 to 2008 era, and has been a club Life Member since 1990.
He went on to build an equally distinguished coaching career, delivering a State Championship and cup treble with Devonport Strikers in 2016, a historic run to the then-FFA Cup Round of 16, and a further Northern Championship title as coach of Northern Rangers in 2022.
After becoming NPL Coach of the Year in 2016, Peter is believed to be the only person in Tasmania ever to be named Player of the Year and Coach of the Year statewide.
Since 2009, Launceston City’s men's Best and Fairest award has carried Peter's name, the Peter Savill Medal, in recognition of the standard he set and continues to represent for the club’s players.
