Two exceptional goals saw Launceston City complete an impressive 3-1 fightback win against Kingborough in NPL Tasmania.
Having only failed to find the net once this season, Angus Taylor’s ninth goal of the campaign was arguably his best as the winger located the top corner to put City ahead 17 minutes from time.
But just eight minutes later substitute Alec Harris was challenging him for goal of the game with another beauty from outside the box.
Captain Jack Woodland began the fightback on the hour, four minutes after City old boy Noah Mies had given Lions the lead in front of the pavilion named after his grandfather Peter Mies.
American midfielder Colin Innes starred as Devonport destroyed Launceston United 8-1.
With one goal to his name this season, Innes added four more, including a first-half hat-trick, as Declan Zasadny contributed a four-minute brace and Yuta Nomura and Charles Bidwell completed the scoring.
Coming off a 10-0 loss to South Hobart, United feared the worst when six down at the break but rallied and found the net through Korean Sungung Choi.
Riverside scored one of the goals of the round before it all went wrong in a 4-2 loss to Glenorchy.
Gedi Krusa continued his habit of long-range strikes after 15 minutes but it only served to fire up Knights.
Riley Dillon’s double made it five goals in two games for the deadly finisher. Nic Naden and James Costello confirmed the outcome before Olympic’s Tom Milner was red carded.
In a late twist, Knights conceded again through a Jack Glover own goal and had coach Brian Murphy sent off for receiving a second yellow card.
Sunday’s top-versus-bottom clash at Wentworth Park went to form with South Hobart beating Clarence Zebras 8-0.
Kobe Kemp scored a 10-minute hat-trick either side of half-time after Austin Yost bagged the first couple. Jacob Lancaster also claimed a brace with Musashi Kokubo completing the scoring.
The first-versus-third encounter in the Women’s Super League saw Devonport cruise to a 3-0 win at Launceston United.
Clinical strikes from Abbie White, Whitney Knight and Asuka Doi’s eighth of the season allowed Tom Ballantyne’s team to extend their lead with fellow pace-setters South Hobart having the bye.
In the week that he talked up the value of his imports, Kingborough coach Simon Edwards watched them claim all the goals in a 4-0 win at Taroona.
One of three South Koreans in the Lions side, Soyoung Lee scored in each half, neatly bookending a brace from influential English talent Hannah Walsh as Taroona’s hunt for a first league goal of the season continues.
Like Taroona, Riverside suffered a fourth-straight loss, going down 5-1 at home to Glenorchy.
Two goals for Eve Swan plus strikes from Sophie Munnings, Jess Shreeve and Addison Broadbent saw Knights to victory. Olympic hit back through Amy Littlechild and also missed a late penalty.
