City and Knights Share The Spoils

Launceston City and Glenorchy Knights played out an entertaining 2-2 draw in their Saturday evening clash at Buckby Landrover Park. Declan Brown continued his strong run of form, scoring to salvage an equaliser for his side after Jarrod Linger's brace had fired City into the lead. It was a fairly even contest on the whole, with both teams having their fair share of the ball and of the scoring chances. It was the Knights that broke through first, via Nic Naden who scored his fifth goal of the season. Naden started the season with a thrilling four-goal display against league newcomers, Riverside Olympic and here he dribbled into the box and beat Clark at his near post to send the visitors 1-0 up. Playing more centrally than he has in previous weeks, his second-half performance was what brought his team back into the game. Scoring two goals in as many minutes, Linger helped his side to get the edge over the Knights. Poaching the ball after a deflected pass, Linger managed to chip it over Lachlan Hart and level the scores. Moments later, Linger then sent his side into the lead, blasting his shot into the roof of the net from point-blank range after a good cross from . The striker went down claiming that Turner had fouled him from behind. It was very tight and would have been very difficult to see, but Stratos was confident in his decision and pointed to the spot. Declan Brown stepped up to take the penalty, however, Clark guessed correctly and pulled off an incredible save, palming the ball away onto the crossbar. Unfortunately for City, the rebound fell perfectly to Brown who calmly side-footed the ball into the back of the net to make the scores 2-2. So far this season Clark has faced two penalties and pulled off two saves in the process. On this occasion, he was just extremely unlucky that the rebound fell to his opponent. The remainder of the match produced a couple of opportunities for both teams, but none came to fruition. Launceston City picked up their first points of the season and should be encouraged by the fact that they were playing some good football with some return on the scoreboard. Next week they face their first away trip to KGV to take on the Hobart Zebras. Glenorchy faces the tough test of a South Hobart side that demolished Clarence in round 7 and appear to rounding nicely into form. https://youtu.be/eER1j0qedXA
