Clarence United and Hobart Zebras have today notified their members and Life members as per both of their respective constitutions of their intent to hold an extraordinary general meeting on 17 September 2019 to consider and vote on the merger of Clarence United and Hobart Zebras Clubs, in order to form a new Club.
Discussions commenced between Clarence United and Hobart Zebras in June and the aim is to form a bigger, more viable club, through their respective merged strengths of facilities, players, officials and volunteers.
The new club would have in excess of 500 plus registered participants if successfully merged making it among the biggest in the state and youth will apparently be a major focus.
Football Tasmania CEO Matt Bulkeley indicated his support for the proposal.
"Clarence United and Hobart Zebras have kept Football Tasmania abreast of the process they have been going through towards potential amalgamation. As the governing body we are certainly supportive of any coming together of clubs where the ultimate outcome will benefit football in the region.’’
"The proposed merger of these two clubs, both with great history in the game in Tasmania, is likely to lead to a number of benefits, including helping with greater access to training and playing facilities, strengthening of the volunteer base and financial sustainability into the future."
"Football Tasmania looks forward to the outcome of the respective Special General Meeting. Once the decision is made by the members we will provide further comment."
Please see the attached Media Briefing for further details on the proposed merge between the clubs.
