The merger of Clarence United and the Hobart Zebras into a new club, Clarence Zebras, has been ticked off by the members of the two clubs at Extraordinary General Meetings last night.
The result of the vote means the way has now been paved for the merger to go ahead and the new club to be formed.
Discussions commenced between Clarence United and Hobart Zebras back in June with the aim to form a bigger, more viable club, through their respective merged strengths of facilities, players, officials and volunteers.
Hobart Zebras president Nick Di Giovanni said he was thankful the members saw to vote in favour of the move.
“I’m just thankful that Zebras got the great support of the committee and the life members especially and the members that can see the future and the viability of the club.
“Give us two or three years, it’ll be a big club. A big successful club, that’s what we want. Something successful starting from scratch.”
Clarence President Ronnie Bolton was likewise pleased with the outcome.
“As far as Clarence are concerned, thanks to all of the members that turned up and voted, in my mind, the correct way and [I want to] thank them all for what has been a really tough two or three years,”
“The two committees will meet pretty quickly to get a few things running, From here on in it’s hard work but it’s going to be joyful work.”
The Clarence Zebras will play out of Wentworth Park and will compete in the 2020 NPL and WSL competitions.
