Clinical Warriors claim cup win over South

Match report by Tanner Coad. The Olympia Warriors have marched onto the semi-finals of the Statewide Cup in a 3-0 thrashing over South Hobart away at Darcy Street. Some big team news saw Bonnie Davies absent, as her move to NPLW Victoria side Heidelberg United was finalised earlier in the week. Former Clarence Zebras keeper Kacee Ponting started in cup competition for the first time in over two years, and she earned her side a clean sheet in her own right. Already hit with injury woes, South tried to keep any structure possible. Eve Swain lined up at centre-forward, along with Pishon Choi there to provide the service. South started the stronger of the two sides, with Swain just shooting wide early after a good save from Ponting. It didn't take long for Olympia to find their championship winning form, though, with Mia Cane scoring the opener despite some great rebounding saves from South goalkeeper Georgia McMullen. Alabama-bound Madi Chambers continued her scoring form with yet another brace as she prepares for her move to the United States in July. South tried to turn on the afterburners early in the second half, with fullback Bridie Cooling working tirelessly up the flanks, but Ponting kept her composure to cancel out any hope of a comeback. Olympia will now return to Warrior Park for an absolute blockbuster with rivals Clarence Zebras in the cup semi-finals, while South will now have to deal with the Warriors again in the MyState Women's Super League this weekend.
