We’re really excited to be welcoming Western United FC to Tasmania next month for the Festival of Football.
It is critically important that this partnership is able to provide tangible benefits to football in Tasmania. To this end, we are so pleased that two Tasmanian women’s state teams (one senior and the other an Under 16 team), will be selected to play against Calder United SC prior to the second A League match. Kick-off times for these two matches will be approximately 2.00pm and 4.15pm respectively.
Prior to the A-League match on Saturday, we will also be staging two local matches. The first will be Launceston United SC v Olympia FC Warriors in the MyState Bank Women’s Super League at 11.45am. The second will be Kingborough Lions United Football Club v Devonport City Strikers in the NPL Tasmania at 2.15pm.
In order to make it as easy as possible for our football community (players, referees, coaches and volunteers) to attend the matches on Saturday 17 April,
we have made the decision to postpone all Football Tasmania competition matches on that day (with the exception of the above matches). Please note that we anticipate that all junior football scheduled in Launceston for that morning would continue as normal.
There are many activities planned during the Festival of Football for all of our Football community to be involved in, including open training sessions, a fan day, as well as community clinics in the south and on the north-west coast. We are supporting the club with this and further information will be provided on these and other activities in the coming days.
This is a great opportunity for our football community to enjoy elite football in this State for the first time in eight years. We also believe that strong support for these matches will demonstrate to Football Australia as well as to the other A-League clubs, that Tasmania is deserving and ready for our own team. These matches, together with other elite football content including national teams, will help us build towards this outcome in the next 2-3 years.
We encourage you to get your tickets early, maybe make a weekend of it in Launceston and enjoy the benefits of a Festival of Football pass. There are a number of ticket options available including discounts for our Football Tasmania community when you use
the discount code PLAYFOOTBALL. Further information can be found on the
Festival of Football website. If you require any assistance for ticket purchases please email
membership@wufc.com.au.
2021 promises to be a big year for the most played team sport in Tasmania and we look forward to seeing you in Launceston next month.
