Female Football Week has kicked off for 2017 at a breakfast held to honour the recipients of FFW Women's Football Community Awards. The awards were given out for outstanding contributions to the game over the course of the 2016 season. Although this wasn't a massive event, club leaders put their heads together to decorate and make the award-giving a special occasion. Flags were flown for the football team (after searching for a commercial flagpole for sale) and families were able to attend if requested.
Westfield W-League Melbourne City footballer Tyla-Jay Vlajni was a special guest at the breakfast where the players, coaches, referees, administrators and volunteers who do so much to help advance Women's Football in the state were celebrated on this International Women's Day for 2017.
The 2016 Female Footballer of the Year award went to Olympia FC midfield Inocent Michael, who played a starring role in their Women's Super League/ Southern Championship triumph last season. The 2016 Tasmanian Female Coach of the Year went to Lucy Johns of Riverside for her work in completing her C-Licence whilst coaching both Under 16's and Senior Women's football teams. Winner of the 2016 Tasmanian Female Administrator of the Year was Frances Seaborn for her tireless devotion to the South Hobart Football Club and the Winner of the 2016 Tasmanian Female Referee of the Year was Sarah Wikeley, whose refereeing skills have seen her selected as an assistant referee for W-League games throughout the 2016/2-17 season.
