September Female Player Welfare Presentation
Nutrition Supporting Athlete Performance
Date: September 17th
Venue: 6:00pm, KGV
Gaye Rutherford is an Accredited Sports Dietitian with a passion for well-being and performance. She currently consults to the Tasmanian Institute of Sport and Gymsports Tasmania, and is excited to be a part of the Paralympics Australia nutrition support team for Tokyo 2020. A keen road cyclist, now beginner paddler, Gaye has had the pleasure of working across a wide variety of sports from endurance (triathlon, cycling, distance running, rowing, swimming), to power (weightlifting, boxing, sprints, trampolining), and team sports (cricket, netball, football). She is particularly interested in how to ignite excitement in her athletes around vegetable consumption, and role that nutrition plays not just in sporting performance, but in wellbeing more broadly. In her spare time she loves learning about positive psychology, learning French at Uni, and acquiring a vast array of cool kitchen gadgets.
Gaye’s presentation will explore some of the roles nutrition can play in supporting athlete performance – and in particular fuel some excitement about the opportunities food and nutrition create to thrive – both on and off the sporting field. Gaye’s goal is for you to leave this session appreciating that nutrition offers us more than just carbohydrates are for energy and protein is for muscle growth; and ideally busting to get home to chow down on some veggies!
