Laura Davis was at her brilliant best, scoring five goals in a glistening individual display as the Kingborough Lions proved far too strong for Riverside Olympic in their Statewide Cup Quarter final. Davis was simply unplayable for most of the afternoon as her side overwhelmed their Northern Championship opposition and ran out comfortable 8-0 victors to advance to the Semi Finals.
Davis's pace loomed large over this game from the outset and she had her side ahead just four minutes in when she raced behind the defence before burying her first of the afternoon.
She could have had her second just minutes later but strangely opted to pass rather than shoot into what seemed an open net, which allowed the Riverside keeper Madeline Davies to grab it.
The Northern Championship side were competing well against their more fancied WSL opponent throughout the half with Meg Connolly looking particularly lively whenever she got on the ball and they caused a few headaches at the back for the Lions defence with Lawson twiced forced into crucial defensive stops.
The Lions superior fitness showed as the half wore on though and they broke through again on 38 minutes when Davis scored a superb solo goal, leaving several defenders in her wake.
A soft goal to Amy Ollington that should've been saved just before half time snowballed into a fourth on the stroke of half time as Davis completed her treble with a well placed finish.
Davis was not done yet though, her scintillating display continued into the second half as she scored another two and set up a third.
Holly Bonertz Benn, along with her sister Kate both had impressive games and it was Holly who made it 5-0 on the hour mark when repeat attacks finally broke down the Olympic defense and she picked out the bottom corner.
The Davis show then resumed when her storming run led to a cross being deflected into the back of the net to make it 6-0 on 77 minutes.
Christabelle Moore then sprung her in behind the defence with an inch perfect through ball that the speedy Davis tore onto before baring down on goal and finishing truly.
She completed her tour de force by bagging a fifth when she poked home a rebound in the final minutes of regulation time to score her fifth goal and secure a thumping 8-0 win for the Lions.
