A feast of football is forecast for Tasmanians this long weekend.
Five state-wide finals are taking place across the state, with hundreds of junior players also converging upon the north-west for the Devonport Cup.
South Hobart and Launceston City will battle it out for the NPL Development League title at 2.30pm on Saturday, 11 June at Windsor Park in Riverside.
South Hobart will also contest the final of the Men’s U20 Statewide Cup, taking on Devonport Strikers at Windsor Park at 5pm that same day.
All eyes will then turn to KGV on Monday 13 June, with the venue hosting a huge triple header of finals.
The day will kick off with the Women’s Statewide Cup Final between Launceston United and Kingborough Lions at 11am.
South Hobart and Devonport Strikers will contest the Lakoseljac Cup Final at 1.30pm, with the winner also gaining entry into the Australia Cup where they face the possibility of drawing A-League opponents.
In the final match, Clarence Zebras and Kingborough Lions will battle it out to be crowned champions of the WSL Development League at 4pm.
Football Tasmania CEO Matt Bulkeley said it was fantastic to have exciting events in all corners of the state.
“With five finals being decided in one weekend, as well as the Devonport Cup for juniors, the Queen’s Birthday long weekend is shaping up to be one of the biggest days on the Tasmanian football calendar,” he said.
“There’s nothing like the passion of cup football, and I encourage Tasmanians to rug up and get to a game and see the state’s best players in action as they battle it out for silverware.
“On behalf of Football Tasmania I’d also like to thank McDonald’s for supporting the statewide cups, as well as for their continued support of junior and grassroots football.”
