Football Tasmania congratulates Janine Healey for winning Citizen Award

Football Tasmania President Bob Gordon has congratulated Janine Healey for winning the 2021 Citizen Award as part of the Launceston Community Recognition Awards. Ms Healey won the award for her dedication and commitment to a number of community enriching groups, including in her role as director of the Football Tasmania Board. Mr Gordon said Ms Healey had been a driving force behind the growth of football in Tasmania, especially among women and girls. “Janine’s tireless work for football demonstrates why she thoroughly deserves this recognition and Football Tasmania feels very lucky to have her on board,” Mr Gordon said. “Women’s football in Tasmania has gone from strength-to-strength in recent years and we now have the highest proportion of female players of any state in Australia. “This has been achieved by having females ingrained in our game throughout all levels off the field, from junior administration right up to the Football Tasmania Board. “With close to 40,000 players overall, football is Tasmania’s most-played team sport. “We’re looking forward to its popularity soaring even further off the back of the 2023 Women’s World Cup, which is set to inspire the next generation of players to become the next Tasmanian Matilda or Socceroo.”
