Today (Friday, 20 February), Football Tasmania officially launched the 2026 McDonald’s National Premier Leagues (NPL) Tasmania and McDonald’s Women’s Super League, featuring the State’s top players.
Football Tasmania CEO Tony Pignata OAM said: “We are thrilled to launch the third season in which McDonald’s Australia is the naming rights sponsor for both the men’s and women’s top-flight Statewide competitions.
“We’ve expanded both leagues this year to include 18 teams from eleven clubs, spread across the State from Ulverstone to Sorell.
“We are grateful to Maccas for their ongoing support across our game and welcome our three new sides and two new clubs to these leagues, as we prepare for the season to begin next month.”

Players, coaches and presidents representing the 18 teams were present, along with Football Tasmania Board Chair Bob Gordon, and local McDonald’s franchisee John Barry-Murphy.
The McDonald’s WSL will feature eight teams in 2026 – Devonport City Strikers, Launceston United, South Hobart, Kingborough Lions, Taroona, Glenorchy Knights, Riverside Olympic and newcomers Launceston City.
The season will begin on Saturday 13 March and run across 21 rounds, concluding on Saturday 5 September.
The McDonald’s NPL will feature ten teams in 2026 – Devonport City Strikers, Launceston United, South Hobart, Launceston City, Kingborough Lions, Clarence Zebras, Glenorchy Knights, and Riverside Olympic will be joined by Ulverstone and South East United.
The men’s season will begin on Saturday 7 March. The ladder leader after 18 rounds will win the League title and be Football Tasmania’s representative in the Australian Championship this year.
The two bottom-placed teams at the close of the season will be relegated for Season 2027 to their respective regional Championship.
The season will be followed immediately by a finals series for the top five finishers, culminating in a Grand Final on Sunday 6 September.
