Football Tasmania has today welcomed Labor and the Liberals’ bi-partisan commitment to football in northern Tasmania.
Football Tasmania CEO, Matt Bulkeley, said that football has the highest participation rate of any team sport in northern Tasmania and the commitments from both Labor and the Liberals reflected that.
“It’s encouraging to see that both major political parties recognise that football is by far the biggest team sport in Tasmania. While other sports are having trouble finding enough players to put on the ground, football’s biggest challenge is finding enough grounds for all of our players. For instance at Churchill Park, which is one of the grounds that is now guaranteed to be upgraded, is used by over 1,800 junior and youth players every week.”
With Labor and the Liberals now committed to supporting football in Bass, the following projects are effectively guaranteed:
Additional pitches and improved facilities at Churchill Park
Upgrades to Windsor Park
Improved facilities at Birch Park and NTCA 2
“While this is encouraging, Football Tasmania would also like to see both major parties commit to a number of other projects around the State,” Mr Bulkeley said
