Football Tasmania welcomes Festival of Football Launch

Football Tasmania has welcomed the launch of the 2022 Macca’s Festival of Football, which will see Western United play two A-League Men’s matches in Launceston in April.

United will play against Perth Glory on 16 April, before taking on Macarthur FC on 19 April, with both games to be held at UTAS Stadium.

In an exciting opportunity for Tasmania’s high performance female players, Calder United, Western United’s feeder NPLW club, will also play a match against a Tasmanian women’s select team as part of the festival.

Football Tasmania CEO Matt Bulkeley said having top-level football content in Tasmania was the next step in the growth of the World Game.

“After a successful 2021, it’s great to welcome both Western United and Calder United back to Launceston for another Macca’s Festival of Football.

“Football is Tasmania’s most-played team sport and continues to rise in popularity, especially among junior players.

“Bringing more high-level content to Tasmania is key to seeing the game grow even further and I thank Western United and the State Government for supporting this vision.

“We’re looking forward to pursuing further opportunities to bring elite level football to Tasmania, including one day having an A-League club to call our own.”
