Football Tasmania has welcomed the Liberals’ commitment to rejuvenate Prospect Park, the home of Launceston City Football Club, if re-elected.
Under the pledge, $1 million will be spent on new change rooms, public access toilets, storage and medical rooms.
Football Tasmania CEO Matt Bulkeley said upgrades would make a huge difference at Launceston City.
“Launceston City has a strong history in Tasmanian football, formed in 1957 and playing out of Prospect Park since 1978,” Mr Bulkeley said.
“However you’d be forgiven for thinking the changerooms and supporting facilities hadn’t changed a bit in that time, and the club has certainly outgrown them.
“As the popularity of football continues to grow in Launceston, particularly with more women and girls taking part in the World Game, these upgrades will allow the club and the sport to realise their full potential and allow all players to participate comfortably and safely.
“Football Tasmania thanks the Premier and the Liberals for their understanding of the issues facing our game, and their commitment to provide more modern and inclusive player facilities to improve access to football at Prospect Park.
“We look forward to working with the next Government to make sure football can continue to grow, so that even more Tasmanians can enjoy the benefits of playing the World Game.”
