Football Tasmania has welcomed today’s announcement that a re-elected Morrison government will commit $2.3 million towards upgrades to Seymour St Park.
The announcement, made by Liberal candidate for Lyons Susie Bower, guarantees a significant rejuvenation of Brighton Storm’s home ground can take place, following federal Labor’s commitment of the same amount made last month.
This commitment will allow the construction of two full-size pitches, lighting, clubrooms and additional facilities at Seymour Street in Brighton if elected next month.
The football component forms part of a re-elected Morrison Government’s $2.3 million commitment towards the Seymour Street Masterplan, which also includes a number of complementary community infrastructure initiatives.
Football Tasmania CEO Matt Bulkeley thanked Ms Bower, saying the funding would provide a massive boost to football in the fast-growing Brighton region.
“We’ve seen steady growth in participation in Brighton for a number of years now, and this commitment will help take football in the region to the next level,” Mr Bulkeley said.
“As Tasmania’s most-played team sport, grassroots football plays a huge role in the community, and I thank Ms Bower for recognising its importance.
“I’d also like to thank Brighton Council and Mayor Leigh Gray for helping bring this vision to life.
“It’s great to see both sides of politics recognise the value sporting infrastructure brings to the community and we look forward to more announcements across the state in the coming weeks.”
