Football Tasmania has welcomed today’s announcement that Labor will provide funding support of $500,000 for Prospect Park if elected to govern following the upcoming Federal election.
The announcement was made by Member for Lyons Brian Mitchell and Shadow Minister for Sport Don Farrell.
The $500,000 funding is in addition to $1 million Tasmanian Government funding committed as part of the 2020 state election, and will go towards building new changerooms and additional club room facilities.
Football Tasmania CEO Matt Bulkeley said the funding would help facilitate increased football participation, particularly for women and girls.
“As the popularity of football continues to grow in Launceston, particularly with more women and girls taking part in the World Game, these upgrades will allow the club and the sport to realise their full potential and allow all players to participate comfortably and safely,” Mr Bulkeley said.
“We thank Labor, particularly Member for Lyons Brian Mitchell and Shadow Minister for Sport Don Farrell, for recognising the benefits the state’s most-played team sport brings to Tasmania and committing to these upgrades.
"These upgrades should be above politics and we call on the Liberals to support this proposal as well, so that regardless of the election outcome, Tasmania’s football community will have the facilities they deserve.
“We will continue to work closely with both sides of parliament to make sure even more Tasmanians can enjoy the World Game.”
