Football Tasmania has welcomed the Tasmanian Government opening applications for the $2 million COVID-19 sports funding package.
Tasmanian peak sporting organisations will be eligible to access payments of up to $150,000 in the first round of funding to assist in retaining staff so they can prepare to get community sport back up and
running when it’s safe to do so.
FT President Bob Gordon thanked Minister for Sport Jane Howlett for acting quickly and effectively to keep grassroots organisations viable while COVID-19 restrictions prohibited organised sport.
“The health and social benefits of community sport are second-to-none and there’s no doubt Tasmania’s 38,000 football participants are itching to pull the boots and have a kick.
“Football Tasmania thanks Minster Howlett and the Tasmanian Government for recognising the importance of community sport and for being the first state or territory in Australia to provide support to ensure players can get back on the park after the pandemic eases.
“This funding will allow organisations such as Football Tasmania to keep staff on while no sporting activity is taking place in order to make sure we are in the best position to help Tasmanians get straight
back into a healthy, happy and active lifestyle as soon as possible."
