FT welcomes more Prospect Park funding

Football Tasmania has welcomed today’s announcement that a re-elected Morrison government will commit $1 million towards upgrades to Prospect Park.

The announcement, made by Liberal candidate for Lyons Susie Bower, all but guarantees a significant rejuvenation of Launceston City’s home ground can take place, following federal Labor’s $500,000 commitment made last month.

Both funding commitments are in addition to $1 million Tasmanian Government funding announced as part of the 2022 state election, and will go towards building new changerooms and additional club room and storage space.

Football Tasmania CEO Matt Bulkeley thanked Ms Bower, saying the funding would help facilitate increased football participation in the region, particularly for women and girls.

“On behalf of the Tasmanian football community I’d like to thank Susie Bower for committing to the upgrade of Prospect Park, adding to last year’s State Government funding.”

“It’s no secret the facilities at Prospect Park are well overdue for a refresh, particularly to bring them up to standard to allow both males and females to enjoy equal and safe access to football.

“These upgrades will allow Launceston City to realise its full potential and allow all players to participate comfortably and safely at the venue.

“It’s great to see both sides of politics recognise the value sporting infrastructure brings to the community and we look forward to more announcements across the state in the coming months.”
