There’s much more to kids’ sport than winning, and Football Tasmania and MyState Bank are continuing to push that important message through their Good Sports awards.
Football Tasmania CEO Matt Bulkeley was joined by Minister for Sport Jane Howlett to present the latest round of awards to junior players today in Brighton.
“Football Tasmania and MyState Bank have developed the Good Sports Awards to promote good sportsmanship, integrity and fair play in junior football,” Mr Bulkeley said.
“These awards also give us a platform to encourage parents and coaches to focus on player engagement, fun and fairness – rather than winning and over-competitiveness with young players.
“The physical benefits of sport are widely recognised, but it’s also true that playing sport helps build a range of social skills and contributes to children growing up to be well-rounded individuals.
“This year alone we’ve handed out close to 1,000 awards to kids right across the state who receive a giftbag for showing they are Good Sports on the field and we look forward to continuing this initiative for years to come.”
