South Hobart live-wire Kasper Hallam scored one and setup another as South Hobart claimed a 2-1 win over Riverside Olympic at Windsor Park. The young speedster opened the scoring after 11 minutes before turning provider for Sam Berezansky midway through the second half which was enough to secure all three points despite late strike from Spainard Nil Sanz.
South made the early running and it soon translated into the games opening goal. A corner from Berezansky was only half cleared allowing Hallam to pounce. The 17 year old stealing the ball back at the top of the before unleashing an unstoppable shot into the top corner of the goals.
South could've added to their lead as they controlled much of the first half play, probing away and taking advantage of some careless play in possession from the hosts. The Riverside defence was under the pump for large parts of the half but they defended well and managed to get plenty of bodies in the way to stifle the room South had to work in.
The high winds and heavy pitch were making conditions tough for the players but the score remained locked at 1-0 into the break.
South again struck decisively early on in a half after play resumed for the second half. Once again it was the lively Hallam at the heart of it as he picked the ball up in his own half and tore at the defence before sliding the ball through to Sam Berezansky. The South wide man burnt off the attention of the Riverside defenders and into the box before unleashing an absolute rocket of a first time finish that beat Hill for Power at his near post.
Riverside never really looked like finding a way back into the match but they did provide a late scare when Nil Sanz chimed in with his fourth goal of the season. Liam Gilmore slid the ball through and the Spainard sprinted between the centre backs before lifting his effort over the top of the advancing Reid with a deft chipped effort. He also received a Slice of Cheese for the resulting scrap with Reilly Morton, who clung to the football like a dog with a bone and was not going to release it despite the efforts of the Riverside players to try expedite the process of getting the ball back to the middle.
That scrap would be all the game produced in the way of late drama, as South held out for the final minutes of stoppage time and secured the 2-1 victory that propelled them up to third on the table.
