Olympia FC Warriors made it two wins from two in the Summer Cup last night, after defeating the Kingborough Lions 3-1 on a cold night at Warrior Park. A brace from new signing Benjamin Hamlett lead the home side to victory in what was an even encounter for most of the game.
Hamlett nearly had his first in the opening minutes when he lobbed a ball over Lions keeper Lee Mackie but defender Danny Cowen rushed back in time and made a goal line clearance.
After a shaky opening few minutes of Warriors pressure, the travelling Lions began to settle and press higher up the field.
Warren Wadawu was gifted a set-piece opportunity just outside the box in the 20th minute after a foul was committed by a Lions player. Wadawu sent in a looping ball to Hamlett who made no mistake heading home for his first of the night.
There was only two slices of cheese given out in the game, with the Lion's newest signing Luke Bighan and Olympia's Joseph Juma both receiving bookings in the first half.
Kingborough's growing pressure eventually paid off when Spanish import Javi Verdu Sanchez shot on a tight angle and found the bottom right corner of Warrior's keeper Darby Randall net with a lovely finish to make it 1-1.

Jack Ryan soon dented the Lions hope of resurgence when he found himself one on one with the keeper and calmly lobbed over Mackie's head to make it 2-1 before half-time.
Ryan almost had a brace when his thunder bolt of an effort clattered off the cross bar in the second half, but somehow it stayed out and rebounded back into play.
Kingborough did apply good pressure throughout the second half especially from another new signing Moses Khasif who looked very dangerous going forward, but they couldn't get back on terms.
Hamlett then sealed the win in the 89th minute with a long range rocket in the top corner which sent the home fans into jubilation
Olympia will now have a bye weekend as they look to their next home game against South Hobart in a midweek clash February 19th.
Kingborough on the other hand will play Glenorchy Knights next Thursday night at KGV.
