History Made With First All Female Referee Team

History was made at Lightwood Park on Saturday evening, as for the first time in a Men's Top Flight football game in Tasmania, a game was officiated by an all female refereeing team. The Kingborough Lions v Clarence United game saw Tasmania become the second state in the Country after Queensland to have an NPL game officiated by three female match officials. Hargrave has been based out of Canberra officiating in the W-League since departing the State 12 months ago, where she served for over a decade, rising through the local ranks to become a qualified assessor and instructor. Her performance was a fine one in a game with no shortage of tough challenges, she allowed the game to flow nicely. Hargrave was joined by two local up and comers, who ran the line in the capacity as Assistant Referees. Claire Green and Emma Hall, who have been strong performers as lines-women this season. Hargrave said she enjoyed the experience and thought it had been a good contest to be a part of. "It was a good game, an entertaining game to be a part of, and it was a good third team of referees. It was a good game to be a part of, everyone was in good spirits and I enjoyed being part of it." "It was great, everyone who was on the game today deserved to be there. It's great to see women progressing in football in general." She said she hoped it would help inspire other females to take up the whistle. "Yeah hopefully (it will inspire the next generation) Back when I was first getting into refereeing, we had some female referees come down and referee a Lakoseljac Cup Final , so that was a bit of inspiration for me." As for her W-League career, Hargrave is enjoying her time and seeing where it will take her. "It's going well, last season was my third season as an assistant on the W-League. I'm really enjoying it, I love the W-League its a great competition to be part of and I'm looking forward to next season." Referee's Development Manager Tony Peart said he held them in high esteem and they had all earned their place via their performances. "Lauren has really progressed strongly with her refereeing since departing the state so i'm excited to see her take charge of the game on Saturday and show her development. She would have been on NPL games down here last season.   "Claire and Emma have been strong performers for us locally this year and are two we are really looking to push, as I feel they have the potential to follow a similar pathway to Lauren, moving on to the next level." "Hopefully this can inspire a few more female referees to take up the whistle, and really go to show that gender doesn't matter when it comes to taking charge of a game."  https://youtu.be/U13ycnRqBl8 [caption id="attachment_11017" align="alignnone" width="680"] PlessPix[/caption]
