Kidmas Claims Derby For Riverside

https://youtu.be/utQe5QI_aZU Substitute Aaaron Kidmas made himself the Derby Day hero for Riverside Olympic as he pounced upon a loose rebound sitting in the box and fired home on 87 minutes to sink Launceston City and secure a 2-1 win for the visitors. Earlier, Matt Spanos had handed Riverside the lead before Samuel Ridgard made it 4 consecutive games with a goal to level things up setting the stage for Kidmas's dramatic late winner. Riverside started the sharper and had looked the more likely side to score, Fletcher Fulton came close drawing a good save from Nash, as the visitors continued to probe away and made the early running which eventually lead to the opener. Tom Prince was given far too much time and space and he chipped a through ball over the City defence which Matt Spanos ran onto, beating the offside trap before beating Nash at his near post to make it 1-0 a lead they would take into the half time break. After Riverside had the better of the first 45 it was City who began to work their way on top and it felt like they were knocking on the door throughout the second half as chances fell to Mies and Linger that went begging. A massive block from Prince denied Ridgard from close range, but he would not be denied on 74 minutes, making it three in as many games for the Englishmen when he finished off a Mohammadi free kick that picked him out at the back post. It set the stage for a dramatic finish and Mackenzie Hancox almost made it his own fairytale script by scoring the winner against the side he switched from in the lead up to the game, but Nash made a big save to deny him. The rebound fell to Kidmas however, who showed composure and swept home the late winner to secure derby bragging rights for Olympic. It meant that all four times these sides have met in the NPL Tasmania the game has ended with a 2-1 scoreline, with Riverside having claimed 3 of those 4 wins. It also means they hoisted the Guardian Pharmacies Challenge Cup, which was a new introduction for the Derby and will be played for each time the sides meet in the NPL from now on.
