The Glenorchy Knights continued their strong run of form as they registered a fourth win on the bounce with a 2-0 win over Riverside Olympic at Windsor Park. Goals from Nicholas Naden and Joffrey Nkoso secured the result as they moved up into second spot on the NPL Tasmania table, three points behind the leaders Devonport.
The game was delayed due to the Knights bus breaking down en route, but it would prove to be the only hiccup on the day as they put in a polished display to claim the three points to take back down the highway.
The Knights had the best of the early exchanges and their lively attacking brigade led by Joffrey Nkoso were keeping the Riverside defence firmly on their toes.
Naden flashed a warning shot wide of the post early on, but the warning was not headed and he soon had his side ahead.
A short corner was crossed in by Bellini who picked out the head of Naden who nodded home the opening goal on 22 minutes.
Riverside almost hit back immediately via Neilson after Sanz unlocked the defence but Lachie Hart came up big in the Knights net. Another headed chance also went begging just before the break which ensured the Knights would maintain their one goal advantage into the second half.
The game was in the balance in the second half with both sides looking capable of scoring, but it was Joffrey Nkoso who provided the goal on 52 minutes with a speculative blast.
Skipping free of a crowd of players, he let fly with a rocket from 25 yards that Hill could got plenty of, but not enough to keep it out as it deflected into the far corner and doubled the Knights advantage.
The two goal buffer always looked like being enough for the Knights and whilst Riverside had some nice moments in attack, for the most part they looked more like conceding a third than pulling one back.
It ended 2-0 and the Knights walked away with their fourth consecutive win to jump up into second place on the table. They will now face a massive clash next Saturday when they travel up to Valley Road to take on the Strikers in a top of the table battle that looms as a decisive battle in the 2020 title race. Riverside meanwhile will look to get back on the winners list when they entertain South Hobart at Windsor Park.
