It was a real one sided affair on Friday night at KGV, with Callum Brown and Nicholas Naden both scoring hat-tricks as Glenorchy stormed to a 10-0 win over a helpless Clarence United.
Warren Burt's team really didn't impact at all tonight as Knights enjoyed having multiple goalscorers to add to the woes of this struggling club, who were desperate to get any result they can, tonight was not one of those nights. This was the Knights night.
For the opening ten minutes Clarence's defence held firm, but they were still letting Knights on the ball into the attack way too easily. That structure was finally broken in the 17th minute when Brown made a great run down the wing and whipped in a cross to Nicholas Naden who tapped the ball into the net for the Knights first.
In the 22nd minute Clarence had a real chance to make something happen from a set piece, but after the shot was cleared away with a thumping long ball to Naden again. The Knights attacker produced a cheeky lob over Matthew Dyson into an open net for his brace.
A mere two minutes later, new signing Alexander Leszczynski would add to Dyson's woes and thump a shot right into the net with absolute power behind it.
Perhaps Clarence's best chance of the night was from Jackson Ebini who took on two defenders to get himself on a tight angle for a long range attempt, but his shot was palmed away by Dmitri Nester who did his job between the sticks.
In the 40th minute, Dyson ran out to try prevent another shot going into the net, despite being one on one with Brown, he couldn't produce a save and would see the ball sail past into the left corner of the goals, with a tidy finish inside the box.
The Knights were pushing hard for a 5th goal before half time and sure enough they got it. Brown made a great run in behind the keeper, his shot was saved away by Dyson, but Leszczynski picked up the pieces and grabbed his second of the night who scored on the rebound right into the net.
In the 52nd minute it would be Brown that completed his brace, skipping around the keeper and finishing into an open net for the Knight's 6th of the match.
Five minutes later it went from bad to worse, as Brown sealed his hat-trick with another great finish inside the box which was hit with power. Brown was subbed after that fine goal and Lachlan Hardwick would take his place.
The 66th minute saw a super sub goal from Jake Stuart who got amongst the goals, his shot absolutely rippled the back of the net and would make the scoreline 8-0.
Substitutes scoring goals was the trend of the second half, as Ryan Backhouse made no mistake inside the box and cut Dyson's net for another neat finish for Knights. James Sherman had certainly got his substitutions right!
The final action of the night would see Naden pick up a good through ball, then thumping a shot into the back of the net with real force. That completed his hat-trick and the full time whistle sounded quickly after that.
Speaking post-match Glenorchy's coach James Sherman was "happy to bring in some of the younger boys tonight, credit to Clarence, long parts of the game they were in it and I think 10 nil isn't a real reflection of the game"
Sherman singled out Leszczynski "Albie's hold up play was really good, needs game time, movement up front really good, gives us experience him coming in, makes him a real leader"
James also had his say on the proposed fixture change for next week which would of seen Glenorchy play the Devonport Strikers, but will not take place due to Devonport having their Lakaseljac Cup Final two days after the previous scheduled date of Saturday.
Warren Burt's comments were much the opposite, "not a great deal of positives, playing a very good team and down a couple players, couldn't get the ball forward, played out of the back okay but couldn't hit the final third"
Burt was tight lipped on the departed services of Odaine Demar to Scotland this week, "he's gone that's all I can say, disappointing but gotta fill the gap that's all".
