Labor To Fund Ulverstone Lighting Upgrade

Football Tasmania CEO Matt Bulkeley has welcomed Federal Labor's commitment of $210,000 to build three new light towers at the Ulverstone Showgrounds if elected, and thanked Justine Keay for her terrific ongoing support of the game in Tasmania. The upgrades will see the construction of a trio of new towers to light up the showgrounds and allow the club greater access for training sessions, as well as the ability to stage night time games. "We are pleased to see this latest commitment from Federal Labor as we continue to work towards ensuring our game has the infrastructure it requires to thrive. Justine has been a great supporter of the game in Tasmania and we are delighted to see that continue. We thank the Federal Labor Party for this commitment and hope to secure similar commitments for other facilities around the state in the lead up to the election." said Bulkeley. "Ulverstone have been one of the great success stories in Women's Football in Tasmania, going undefeated in the Super League in 2018 and we have no doubt that with these upgrades they will continue to be a leader in that space." Announcing the commitment, Federal MP for Braddon, Justine Keay said she was pleased to be able to deliver the badly needed upgrades for the club. "Ulverstone's growth and success on the pitch has come in spite of inadequate lighting on a large section of the Showgrounds," Ms Keay said. "The Reds' boast an extensive program from Under 8's to seniors, and the new light towers will see more soccer players of all ages on the pitch. I've been working with Football Federation Tasmania and the Ulverstone Soccer Club for some time to deliver a fix, and I'm delighted Bill Shorten and Labor will invest $210,000 to build three new light towers." The agreement is in partnership with the Central Coast Council, who have announced they will contribute $20,000 for its management. The commitment follows Labor's previous pledge of $1 million for ground upgrades in Launceston as well as $1.5 million for Lightwood Park if elected in the upcoming May 18th election.
