Liberal stadium commitment welcomed

Football Tasmania has welcomed the Liberal Party’s commitment to establish a Stadiums Tasmania Trust, which among other functions will act to determine the feasibility and appropriate location of a new rectangular stadium. Football Tasmania President Bob Gordon said with positive discussions regarding a future A-League team continuing, a rectangular stadium was now what is needed to take football to the next level in Tasmania. “Football is Tasmania’s most played team sport, however the absence of elite level content is holding the game’s enormous growth potential back and limiting opportunities for our most talented junior players,” Mr Gordon said. “We’ve been working closely with the State Government, the A-League, Football Australia and prospective owners of a future Tasmanian A-League team to build support for a rectangular stadium, which is the missing piece of the puzzle for the World Game in Tasmania. “In addition to taking football to the next level in Tasmania, a rectangular stadium will offer much more to the state, including high-level content in other codes, entertainment opportunities and other associated economic benefits. “We welcome the Liberals’ announcement – it’s fantastic both major parties have now demonstrated their commitment to a rectangular stadium in the state, and clearly recognise the significant value football provides to the community. “We look forward to working with the next Government to make a rectangular stadium a reality, and ensure football can continue to grow so even more Tasmanians can enjoy the benefits of the World Game.”
