Lions Bounce Back With Win Over Reds

https://youtu.be/aj8F36DP7sw The Kingborough Lions have bounced back in style after last weeks disappointing result back at the Den. Despite having an under strength XI, they won 5-1 on the road at Wentworth over Clarence United In the 22nd minute Clarence's defence was broken when a corner ball was sent in from Cameron Steele. Plenty of bodies clashed for it but it was Brayton Allen waiting to pick up the pieces for his second goal of the season, as he slotted it home for the Lions first. Jake Brennan then sent in a good cross for Phillip Kantzos in the 30th minute, as he got onto his preferred foot and knocked it in for a good finish down the middle past keeper Nicholas Downham. Kantzos turned provider shortly after when he launched in a dangerous ball to a lurking Jacob Brennan, who brought it down to his boot and calmly finished into the bottom right corner for the Lions third in the 36th minute. A lifeline of sorts was given to Clarence when they found the net off a looping free kick where Jackson Ebini was waiting unmarked and he headed it past keeper Jake Hayers to make the scores 1-3 at the break. Regular keeper Kenneth Perkinson was absent today due to family commitments so Hayers was given his NPL debut. Late in the second half the Lions scored off another corner when Joel Sammut sent in a hopeful ball. Defender Nicholas Cuthbertson got on a sharp angle and somehow found boot to ball and made sure that would be the Lions 4th of the game. Cameron Steele was the final goalscorer of the day when he was set up by a nice ball from Brennan and he hit it hard on the volley for a quality finish. My honourable mention goes to young James Hall who occupied the wings well causing all sorts of trouble for the Clarence defence, sending in multiple crosses and taking on a couple players here and there. After the game Kingborough defender Danny Cowen was overall pleased with his side coming through for the win. "Job done, 3 points is another 3 points, good effort by the boys, Steele is a class act, just needed to close it out a bit better in the full 90 and press in a bit harder" Clarence manager Warren Burt was satisfied with his teams efforts. "First half we played a good game, scoreline somewhat in our favour, but the performance was not great in the second period, nice to see Ibini on the sheet getting a goal, we can take a lot out of this game with the structure and passing we did.” https://youtu.be/FM74V4nliEQ
