Lions Jump To Fourth With Win Over Bees

The Kingborough Lions have moved up into fourth place on the Women's Super League table as they ground out a 2-1 win over University at Lightwood Park. Goals from Laura Davis and Paris Menadue either side of a Zoe Lovell strike secured the win, with all the scoring coming inside the opening 45 minutes. The Lions opening goal came from a set piece on 21 minutes as Bonertz-Benn lobbed one back across the face of goal allowing for Menadue to execute an acrobatic finish from close range. University were quick to respond however as Zoe Lovell, raced onto a wonderful through ball from Emma Cazaly after Tadros did well to win it back and midfield and she slammed her shot home at the near post to restore parity. The Lions in turn were quick to regain their lead, as Holly Bonertz-Benn split apart the Bees defence which had pushed up the field, allowing room in behind for Laura Davis to race onto and do what she does best by cooly slotting it home. After the free flowing goal scoring action of the first half, a shootout seemed in order but that would be all the scoring action from the game, with the second half a shut out and the final score remaining 2-1 in favour of the Lions, allowing them to jump up a position on the WSL table. https://youtu.be/HvJ62ndsES8
