Lions Staging Charity Round This Weekend

The Kingborough Lions have teamed up with SPEAK UP! Stay ChatTY to hold an inaugural Men’s and Women’s Charity Round. The Lions will be hosting Clarence United Football Club in both matches on Saturday, 27 April, at Lightwood Park and have announced that all gate takings and donations for this charity round will be donated to SPEAK UP! Stay ChatTY, SPEAK UP! Stay ChatTY is formally partnered with Relationships Australia Tasmania to deliver suicide prevention and mental health awareness programs and initiatives. All funds raised are received by Relationships Australia Tasmania, on behalf of SPEAK UP! Stay ChatTY and are used solely to fund the delivery of programs and activities of SPEAK UP! Stay ChatTY to promote mental health and prevent suicide. Sports Program Officer for the charity, James Rice, said that the occasion was a great chance to help spread mental health awareness. “SPEAK UP! Stay ChatTY greatly value sporting rounds across all codes, there is a chance for people to donate but more importantly it spreads awareness towards positive mental health in our communities”, Both Kingborough Lions United FC’s teams will be wearing an Umbro strip specially designed for the game, sporting the SPEAK UP! Stay ChatTY logo. Each team will be vying for a shield that has kindly been donated by SPEAK UP! Stay ChatTY, In a statement announcing the initiative, the Lions said they were proud to be doing there bit for the community. "Kingborough Lions United FC is proud to be involved with this community based charity organisation that provides awareness and education through its programs, encouraging people to seek help when they need it and how we can help each other out in tough times." The Women’s Super League match will kick off at 3.30pm and the Lions will enter the game as red hot favourites after downing the same opponent in the Statewide Cup a week earlier. It was a 5-0 win that would have been more if not for the valiant efforts of Vanderniet in the Clarence net. The quality of their play has really ticked up a gear this season and they should have too much for an opponent who have the tools to frustrate them, but probably lack the weapons to really trouble them The WSL will be followed by the NPL match, kicking off at 6.00pm. The Lions will be on the hunt for an NPL win after going without one in their past five league outings. They did offer an improved showing in their past two outings with a 0-0 draw with Launceston City on Monday and a 2-1 Lakoseljac Cup defeat to the Devonport Strikers. A thumping 8-0 win over Clarence in their NPL meeting earlier this season suggests they should do it comfortably, though the Reds 1-0 win over Riverside on Monday indicates they have turned somewhat of a corner since then and should provide more of a challenge this time around.
