Football Tasmania has congratulated Lucy Johnson for her signing with W-League club Newcastle Jets.
Johnson is now the third Tasmanian footballer to join a team in the W-League after Meghan Archer (Melbourne Victory) and Aimee Medwin (Melbourne City), and the second Tasmanian to join Newcastle Jets after Andy Brennan.
Previously a player for Olympia Warriors and Hobart Zebras, Johnson joins the Jets from South Melbourne FC.
Football Tasmania CEO Matt Bulkeley said it was great to see another Tasmanian flying the flag for the state in the nation’s highest level of competition.
“On behalf of the Tasmanian football community I would like to congratulate Lucy for signing to play in Australia’s premier football competition,” Mr Bulkeley said.
“Lucy was a tremendous player in the Women’s Super League for Olympia and Zebras and it’s wonderful to see her progress her game even further since then.
“Women’s football has gone from strength-to-strength in Tasmania in recent years, with the MyState Bank Women’s Super League expanding to be a truly statewide competition.
“It’s great to see this is also translating to pathways for Tasmanian women and girls to reach the highest levels of our game.
“We wish Lucy all the best as she embarks on the next exciting stage of her career.”
