This year’s McDonald’s Statewide Cup finals schedule is set to be a feast of football, with five finals taking place across two venues over the Queen’s Birthday long weekend (11-13 June).
On Saturday 11 June Launceston will host the best junior men’s talent in the state, with the NPL Development League Final (2.15pm) and the Men's Under 20 Statewide Cup Final (4.30pm) taking place at Windsor Park in Riverside.
All eyes will be on Clennett’s Lightwood Park on Monday 13 June, with the Kingston venue hosting a huge triple header of finals. The day will kick off with the WSL Development League Final at 9.30am, followed by the Women’s Statewide Cup Final at 11.45am and the Lakoseljac Cup Final at 2.15pm.
The Junior and Youth Devonport Cup will also take place between 11-13 June, bringing the long-weekend feast of football to the north-west.
Football Tasmania CEO Matt Bulkeley said it was fantastic to have exciting events in all corners of the state.
“With five cup finals being decided in one weekend, as well as the Devonport Cup for juniors, the Queen’s Birthday long weekend is shaping up to be one of the biggest days on the Tasmanian football calendar.
“Three of this year’s finals will be played at Lightwood Park for the first time, giving all clubs involved the opportunity to enjoy the new changing facilities down there which are first class and fitting for the showpiece finals of Tasmanian football.
“It’s also great to have finals football back in the north of the state for the first time in several years, with two junior men’s finals taking place at Windsor Park.
“While KGV remains the home of football in Tasmania, it was decided that with pending works about to take place to give the venue a much-needed upgrade, Lightwood Park and Windsor Park were the most suitable locations for this year’s finals.
“We’re looking forward to great days out at each venue in what promises to be a huge weekend of action across the state, especially with the Devonport Cup also taking place.
“On behalf of Football Tasmania I’d like to thank McDonald’s for supporting the statewide cups.”
