Lions Account For Zebras In Friday Night Derby

The Kingborough Lions downed the Clarence Zebras 3-0 on Friday night to keep their slim title hopes alive. Their star attacking duo of Noah Mies and Kobe Kemp found the back of the net in the first half to have them well on the way to victory before an extraordinary own goal from Tom McKernan ensured the result midway through the second half. The Lions were rarely troubled throughout the 90 minutes and were good value for the three points, but with a 7-point gap to the top and just 4 rounds left, they need a lot to go right for them from here.

Final Score

Kingborough Lions 3 (N.Mies 26’, K.Kemp 39’, T.McKernan og 64’)

Clarence Zebras 0

Knights Continue To Lead the Way

The Glenorchy Knights showed no ill effects from their midweek Australia Cup road trip to NWS Spirit, as they backed it up with a highly impressive 4-0 win over Riverside Olympic at Windsor Park. Any fears of a fatigued performance were quickly put to bed as they raced to a 2-0 lead inside the opening 25 minutes, as their brilliant attacking pair of Stefan Cordwell and Joshua Redfearn found the back of the net. Although Riverside certainly had some scoring chances to cut into the lead throughout the match, they couldn't make any inroads as it remained at 2-0 til late on when Cordwell and Redfearn would both score for the second time in the match and make the final scoreline more emphatic. The win sees the Knights remaining 2 points clear on top of the table with four rounds to play.

Final Score

Riverside Olympic 0

Glenorchy Knights 4 (S.Cordwell 5’ 87’, J.Redfearn 23’ 91’)

Strikers Down City To Stay In Touch

The Devonport Strikers won their third match in a row, winning a physical battle with Launceston City 2-0 at TassieCare Park. A Brody Denehey free kick had the visitors on their way early on, but the match remained in the balance until late on when Kieran Mulraney headed home the sealer in the 79th minute. In between those goals, there were few real scoring chances, with the game largely controlled by the defenders, but whilst it remained a one-goal game, the Strikers' title hopes had remained on a knife's edge. They got the job done though, and will hope to make up points next week when they meet Riverside, and the top two sides play each other.

Final Score

Launceston City 0

Devonport Strikers 2 (B.Denehey 8’, K.Mulraney 79’)

South Survive Late United Rally

South Hobart held onto second place on the table but they were given a late fright by a spirited Launceston United side, who produced one of their best performances of the year, before falling short 4-3 in a thriller at FloorWorld Park. South Hobart was seemingly cruising to another comfortable win when Alex Walter extended their lead to 4-1 in the 66th minute, with Harison Oates having scored a first-half brace, but United ensured a nervy finish when David Owusu pulled it back to 4-2 in the 79th minute. Owusu then scored his second goal to cut the margin to 4-3, but the final whistle followed almost instantly, denying the home side a chance at a late miracle and seeing South avoid another slip-up in the city of Launceston.

Final Score

Launceston United 3 (C.Reynolds 36’, D.Owusu 79’ 93’)

South Hobart 4 (H.Oates 34’ 45’, A.Yost 51’, A.Walter 66’)
