United Survive Scare From Newcomers Knights
Launceston United began their season with a victory on home soil but were pushed all the way by the Glenorchy Knights in their WSL debut. After a cagey first half that was largely devoid of scoring chances, the game exploded into life in the second half. Twice the Knights fought back to equalise from deficit, and almost cancelled out Olivia Smith's eventual match-winner only for Jazlin Venn to stand up and make a big save at the death to secure the win for her side.

Sims Hat-trick Fires Strikers To Opening Victory
The Devonport Strikers opened up with a comfortable 5-0 victory over Taroona at Valley Road, with 15-year-old Grace Sims filling the Jazmin White-sized hole in their attack by scoring three times. The Strikers were left frustrated for much of the opening half by some inspired keeping from Izzy Ottavi, but they eventually found their breakthrough in the final minute of the first half. Despite some more impressive Ottavi stops in the second half, the goals began to flow for the hosts who cruised to a big win.

Champions Held By Improved Lions Outfit
The defending champions South Hobart were held to a draw by the Kingborough Lions in a compelling Saturday night showdown. The Lions had been widely tipped to be the big improvers in the WSL this season and they demonstrated just why as they rallied late to secure a point against with the brilliant Laura Davis showing her acceleration and goal-scoring sense to cancel out what had been an unfortunate own goal to hand South Hobart the lead.
